Wes and Roller Hockey

Wesley loves to play hockey.  He was disappointed when we had to move and he had to quit ice hockey.  We looked in to signing him up in Florida, but the ice hockey was quite expensive and quite a drive.  We found out about roller hockey and it was at a price we could handle.  It is slightly different, but also similar in many ways. He doesn't have to wear shoulder pads, he would probably kill over with heat stroke if he did.  They also don't wear ice hockey pants (with some padding) and socks.  Instead they wear roller hockey pants, which are lightweight nylon.
I think the rink is a similar size.  It has a sort of painted concrete floor.  They use a puck with little bumps on each side.  The rink is outside.  Wes' rink has huge fans on the ceiling that help with the heat, sort of.

They only play 4 players plus the goalie.  There are only 6 players on each team. So that makes for a lot of playing, especially on Wes' team.  For a while they only had three players showing up.

Wes is number 11.
Poor Wesley has often been on a losing team. This time is no different.  But as the score board shows, this last time they were ahead the whole game, until the last minutes. He made a couple of the goals.  I remind him that it is more important to have fun than to win.  (Although winning every once in a while is fun too.)
