Finally!

I am finally caught up with all of our pictures!  It has taken a while.  So I guess now I will have to do some dishes and laundry.  It isn't all fun at our house.
Yesterday, the mailman dropped off a package.  It was from a hockey company and addressed to Wes.  He was at school, so I couldn't quiz him about it. I couldn't believe it.  Did he just use my credit card or Paypal account?  I looked through my statements and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary.  When he did get home he was just as surprised as we were.
For an assignment at school, he had to write a company.  The teacher told them not to do Apple, because they would only get a letter back.  Many did Skull Candy because they sent stickers.  Some companies send coupons. Wes wanted to do a different company.  So he chose this hockey company, Alkali. (I actually hadn't heard about them.)  He scored big time.  Forget the coupons.  He got a stack of  10 stickers, a hat and a t-shirt!!!  Good job Wes, for stepping outside the norm.

Now if we can just get him to write a letter to a Congressman for his Citizen in the Community Merit Badge! And yes, I know he needs a haircut.

Soldier Hollow

Brent has always wanted to take the kids to Soldier Hollow for tubing.  There was a groupon for it, so he jumped on that!
It did turn out to be quite fun to do.
The first advantage is that you don't have to walk up the hill! (Unless you want to.)  They hook your tube on a line and up you go.  We just relaxed and enjoyed the ride.

The second advantage is that there are lanes.  No crazy turns into the trees.  There are some fun bumps to make it exciting.
Janiel and Ashleigh making a run.
Wes and Ashleigh heading for another ride.

Brent and Erin are all smiles.

We even got to enjoy a beautiful night sky.
Brent got to take two down at a time.

We had a blast.  The kids were disappointed when our two hours were up.  We'll have to go again next year.

Rusty Award

I love science fair projects.  Not really.  I guess it gives the kids the process and the experience to write and research.  I find them to be a pain.
Janiel wanted to do one on rust.  We saw a lot of things rust in Florida.  So she chose to see what makes steel rust.  She dipped steel wool in several different liquids.  She took pictures at different intervals.  It was pretty interesting.

The hydrogen peroxide turned rusty instantly and was bubbling and hot to the touch.
This is after 2 1/2 days.

She did a good job on her poster.  I am glad that I have a Cricut to do the cutting now.
I'm sure we have more science fairs in our future.
She won second place in her class.  So proud of her!

Hockey Adventures

This year with Wes and hockey, we have had some adventures.  Brent has had many meetings because of his calling, so a few of the trips were left to me and Wes.
Vernal
Between a couple of games we took a drive.
We got to see the Vernal Temple.

We took a drive to Naples.  Kind of wish it was Naples, Florida.  Naples, Utah is just a blink on the map.
Naples, Utah is a lot less green than Naples, Florida!
Vernal is known for its Dinosaurs!

The team played hard, but they got beat.  The Vernal team is good.  They practice every day.  I guess there isn't a lot to do in Vernal!  Their team works really good together, as a team.

The last game they played was all mixed together.  They had the boys put their sticks in the middle.  Someone threw sticks to each side to split the teams up.  That was a fun game for them to play.
This is our drive home.  I can kind of see dinosaurs roaming this land.

I guess Vernal does have the drive-in too!

Maverik Center
The Marverik Center is where the Grizzlies play hockey.  It was fun for the boys to play on the same ice.
They played a difficult team, Skyline.  Skyline is a high school that recruits kids to play on their sports teams.  Doesn't give much chance for anyone else.
We took Mitchell and Austin to the game. They were a little too cool to sit with Wes' little sisters and mom.  That's okay.
There is our Prime #11.
We sat behind the players' bench.  So it was kind of fun to see that point of view!

This shot shows Wes and his two friends, Mitchell and Austin.
We also got to see the players' faces for the intermission pep talk!
Kara noticed that the chairs were the same number all the way to the top.  She insisted on taking a picture because it was so neat!

They lost the game, but had a fun time playing.

I thought this was pretty impressive.  This is the team player standings for Varsity.  Wes is 12th.  Not too bad for his first time playing as a Freshman.  In the whole league Wes was #151 out of 394 players!

This is for Junior Varsity!  #1 on his team!  In the league he is #26 out of 330 players.  I'm so glad that he loves playing. More important that doing well is loving it.  But I think loving it helps to do well and doing well helps to love it!  And to think, he has three more years of high school hockey!
