Day 6: July 5, 2012
Nashville to St. Louis, Missouri
9:45 to 4:30
370 Miles
We were sad to leave Heather's family but had the reassurance that she was coming to visit Utah in a couple of weeks. That always makes goodbyes a little easier.
Back in the car! Kara gets creative with her arm rest covers.
We passed through three states on this day. It makes for eight states total!
6. Kentucky
7. Illinois
8. Missouri
Mile 0 in Kentucky
Crossing a cool bridge, somewhere.
We cut the corner of Illinois, but will be returning there tomorrow to stay a couple of days.
This was our first glimpse of the Arch.
I took this picture of the bridge, only to see the sign for Missouri. The camera didn't charge fast enough. As you can see, it wouldn't work to stop and stand by this picture.
The kids standing at the base of the arch. It was pretty breath taking.
Looking at the top of the arch. A little bit scary to think that we would be going to that tippy top point.
We watched an amazing movie how they built the arch.
We had to wait a bit before we could ride up to the top. They had a Natural History Museum at the base so we spent some time in there.
The girls looking a little like Thomas Jefferson.
It had everything from stagecoaches to the man on the moon.
Checking out the tee-pee.
My favorite shot shows a reflection of the covered wagon and a quote by J.P. Taylor. We are headed to the golden land.
It was our turn to go up! We rode in these little capsules to the top.
At the very top!
A picture of the capitol building.
There was a St. Louis Cardinals game going on that night! You can see the stadium was full!
You can see the base of the arch where we were standing.
You could look out the window and see the shadow on the river.
It was a little crowded up top and a little stuffy with all the people in a metal enclosed room on a 100 plus degree day.
Erin heading down the stairs to our chamber.
A sample of the capsules.
Our empty capsule.
Waiting for the door to open.
It was an amazing site to see. We were glad that we stopped to experience that. We heard there were some other amazing museums to see there, but we didn't have time to stop and see. Maybe another time. We drove on a little longer to a city called O'Fallon to spend the night.
